At the end of this lesson, students will be able to understand what is literature and the impact of literature in one's life.
Literature is any type of creative writing such as fiction or poetry.
It is also any form of body of written works of language, which could be from:
i) the English era or
(ii) even as far back as the Shakespearean or Elizabethan era.
Literature, in a broader sense, is any single body of written works.
It is writing considered to be an art form, or any single writing deemed to have artistic or intellectual value
Types of Literature
Literature, is divided into:
the classic three forms of namely, poetry, drama, and prose. Poetry may then be subdivided into the genres of lyric, epic, and dramatic.The lyric includes all the shorter forms of poetry, e.g., song, ode, ballad,elegy, sonnet.
Functions of Literature
Literature is the art of written works.
Published writings in a particular style on a particular subject
Any art form that uses language in either written or spoken form.
In this function, literature is used to entertain its readers.
