At the end of this lesson, students will be able to know Wilde's writing style for The Importance of Being Earnest.
What is author’s style in literature?
In literature, style is the way in which a work is presented through the voice of the author. It is also just as essential to a piece of work as plot, setting, theme, and characters. When you read a text written by an author and another text with a different author, you can tell that both of the texts are composed by two separate individuals.

Why is style important in literature?
Style is important in writing and literature as it carries the individuality or soul beyond the text. You can think of a favorite author and ask yourself why he/she is your favorite. Once you have the list, the reasons would most likely because of their style in writing. Can you imagine a text without style? Yes, it would be very robotic and bland. Style in literature creates that separation from more scientific or literal forms of writing, bringing heart to what would otherwise be dead and much too literal and emotionless for the fiction realm.

Funny and full of Epigrams
An example from the play where Lady Bracknell has a complete lack of sympathy for invalids that makes her react to the news of Bunbury's illness in a ridiculously cold manner
Another example for Wilde's patented epigrams - succinct and witty sayings. they are often general reflections of life.
