At the end of the lesson, students should be able to identify the important characters in the novel Oliver Twist, determine the role of the characters in the novel and understand how the characters influence the themes in the novel.
Plot is the main body in a novel. What makes the plot exciting is the characters in it. Characters make the plot interesting. Well-described character(s) will help create a unique plot.Through the portrayal of characters, we can feel the setting and theme in the story too. For example the character of Oliver Twist in the novel leads us to live through poverty and we can be transported back to the era of Old Victorian class in society. The name "twist" itself in the character lends an element of twist in the plot of the story.Characters also develop the literary language in the novel through portrayal of character traits, symbols as well as the dialogue spoken in the story. Character(s) help engage our emotions through the literary text(s)
Now that you have learnt about the characters in the novel, choose your favourite character in the novel and design a poster of your character . Your poster must include :
Name of character and picture of him/her
Description of character
Positive traits of the character
Negative traits of character ( if any)
Reasons why you like/dislike the character
