The drama itself is divided into three acts. Pay close attention to the literary elements mentioned and the unique terms introduced by Oliver Wilde. Get your pen and paper ready to make notes as you watch. Enjoy watching!

This video sets the introduction to the story by showing us the characters and setting of the drama. Pay attention to the meaning of the term, "Burnbury" as spoken by Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff.

The Introduction of the play takes place in Algernon Moncrieff's flat when he was playing the piano and his servant, Lane was preparing to host Algernon's Aunt Augusta for tea. In the midst of all this, Jack Worthing, who is Algernon's good friend pays him a visit by using his identity as "Ernest". Ernest expresses his intentions of proposing to Gwendolen, Algernon's cousin however, Algernon himself refused to give his consent.

He insisted for Ernest to reveal his relationship with Cecily  before agreeing with the marriage proposal. Ernest told him that Cecily is actually his ward and not his aunt as he had claimed before. He also revealed to Algernon that he has two names and identities; he is "Jack" when he is in the country and "Ernest" when he is in town.
